What does a neurologist do?
Neurologists study and treat a variety of nervous system disorders. The nervous system, especially the brain, is very sensitive, so many diseases can cause neurological complaints.
In case of what problems should we consult a neurologist?
Most often we can contact a neurologist with complaints of headache, low back pain and other pain syndromes, dizziness, tinnitus, epilepsy or other loss of consciousness, cerebrovascular disease, multiple sclerosis, numbness, Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders or memory problems.
Acute Migraine and Headache Center
Swiss Medical Services Headache Center is the first headache center in Hungary operating in private healthcare, where internationally recognized specialists deal with the examination and treatment of headache diseases.
From April 2021, we are waiting for our patients with headaches with a new service in the Swiss Premium Health Centers. We are the first in Budapest to open our Acute Migraine and Headache Center, which offers the treatment of headaches that do not respond to standard medications.
It is primarily recommended for those whose pre-existing (migraine or other) headaches are now more severe and who have not responded to the medicines they have taken so far. If your headache is severe and you have not been able to take medication due to accompanying symptoms (e.g. nausea), you should also contact us.
Where can I get this medical specialty?
Common neurological examinations
A detailed medical history and a comprehensive examination are essential in the neurological examination: without these, the results of instrumental studies cannot be interpreted either.
The tests needed to make a diagnosis, laboratory, cervical ultrasound, X-ray examinations of the skull, spine and other parts of the body, as well as opportunities for consultation with related professions are available at our Medical Center. If MRI or CT scans are needed, we will help you perform them.
Investigation of headaches
Headaches are a very common complaint that can be caused by harmless migraines that make life significantly more difficult, as well as organ nervous system disease. In some cases, headaches can also be a symptom of a serious illness. You should contact our headache clinic if you have a recent headache; if the nature or frequency of your headaches has changed; if you experience a significantly stronger headache than before; but even if previous investigations have not found the cause of the headache or no effective treatment has been found. With a holistic approach at our headache clinic, we aim not only to rule out organ diseases, but also to explore the cause of headaches and use effective treatments with as few side effects as possible.
What to bring for a neurological examination?
In order to be able to determine the cause of your complaints as accurately as possible during the neurological examination, to plan the necessary examinations and treatments, it is important that we know as much as possible about your health condition. Therefore, we recommend that you come prepared for the test and bring the following with you:
- discharge summaries and findings related to his previous illnesses
- if you had an imaging examination (CT, MRI), then in addition to the textual findings, the images (on CD)
- list of medicines you take regularly
- if you have a drug allergy, information about it
- if you come due to a headache, it is worth keeping a headache diary until we meet, which can be downloaded by clicking here.
Adhering to the above, keeping a headache diary is a great help so that we can determine the cause of your headache and treatment options as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your help.
