RHEUMATOLOGY

What does a rheumatologist do?

The rheumatologist deals with the conservative treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and examines diseases that cause musculoskeletal symptoms. Performs conservative (i.e. non-surgical) treatment of joints, tendons, muscles, ligaments, and spinal lesions and pain.

In case of what problems should we consult a rheumatologist?

Common rheumatological problems, examinations

Joint puncture and joint injections

During joint puncture, we “drain” the fluid that has accumulated around the joint, which causes a tight feeling and (if it persists) also damages the cartilage. An anti-inflammatory steroid or cartilage regenerating (hyaluronic acid preparation) is then injected into the affected joint. The injection allows to continue treatment with other methods, prevents the development of joint diseases, helps to avoid or at least postpone surgery.

Osteoporosis

One of the most common problems rheumatologists treat their patients with. In women, after delaying menstruation, it is important to measure bone density regularly. In general, in the case of intestinal diseases, absorption problems and diabetes, we also need to pay more attention to the condition of our bones.
