What does a pulmonologist do?

A pulmonologist deals with diseases of the lower respiratory tract and lungs.

In case of what problems should we consult a pulmonologist?

Investigation of the following diseases is the responsibility of the pulmonologist:

  • respiratory allergies,
  • asthma
  • pneumonia
  • inflammation with persistent airway narrowing (COPD)
  • pulmonary fibrosis, diagnosis of lung cancer
  • respiratory symptoms of reflux disease

Depending on the nature of the symptoms, an internal doctor, cardiologist, otolaryngologist or gastroenterologist may be required for a complete examination of the symptoms.

Spirometry

Respiratory function test (spirometry) is a routine test in the diagnosis and follow-up of lung diseases. The test is completely painless and requires no preparation. Suitable for examining lung performance, shows whether and to what extent there is a possible decrease in lung function.
