Orthodontics

Personalized digital smile design, discreet clear aligners, and advanced fixed braces for children and adults.

Orthodontics in Budapest

Functional stability, precise digital planning, and a confident smile

Orthodontics is much more than a cosmetic treatment. Crooked or crowded teeth can be difficult to clean, increasing the risk of tooth decay and periodontal disease. An improper bite may also contribute to excessive wear of the jaw joint, jaw clicking, and chronic headaches.

At Swiss Clinic, our orthodontic treatments are supported by advanced diagnostics and gentle, modern technologies. Whether you need removable orthodontic appliances for children, reliable fixed braces, or discreet clear aligners that are particularly popular among adults, our goal is to create a functionally stable bite and a beautiful, natural-looking smile for patients of all ages.

What to know before your orthodontic consultation

Your orthodontic consultation begins with a thorough, relaxed discussion and examination. Fasting is not required before your appointment. To help ensure a smooth and productive first visit, please keep the following recommendations in mind:

What should you know before your appointment?

  • Brush your teeth thoroughly: Please clean your teeth thoroughly as usual before your examination. If necessary, you can also brush your teeth at our clinic before your appointment.
  • Previous X-rays and dental records: If you have panoramic or cephalometric X-rays taken within the past year, please bring them to your appointment or send them to us in digital format beforehand.
  • Oral health preparation: Healthy, inflammation-free gums and teeth without untreated cavities are essential before beginning orthodontic treatment. If necessary, we can provide the required preparatory dental treatments at our clinic.

When should you consult an orthodontist?

Orthodontic treatment can help correct the position of teeth and jaws at virtually any age. A specialist assessment is recommended if you experience any of the following concerns or conditions:

  • Crowded teeth and gaps: Overlapping or rotated teeth caused by insufficient space, or noticeable gaps between teeth (diastema).
  • Bite misalignment: Deep bite, open bite, crossbite, or protruding front teeth that interfere with chewing or clear speech.
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems: Clicking, popping, fatigue, or pain around the jaw joint when chewing or opening your mouth.
  • Tooth wear and excessive pressure: Uneven tooth wear caused by improper bite forces, increased sensitivity near the gumline, or receding gums.
  • Early orthodontic screening for children: An orthodontic evaluation at ages 7–8 can help monitor the eruption of permanent teeth and address the effects of habits such as thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting.
  • Preparation for dental restorations: Realignment of shifted or tilted teeth before dental implant placement or bridgework in adults.

Which clinics offer this medical specialty?

The orthodontic treatment process

1 Panoramic and cephalometric X-rays
2 Impressions / digital scans
3 Photo documentation and consultation
4 Appliance selection
5 Braces or aligner placement

What orthodontic options are available?

Self-ligating braces

They move teeth using gentle, biologically favorable forces, offering greater comfort than conventional braces. Benefits include shorter overall treatment time, fewer checkup visits, and reduced need for tooth extractions. Also available in clear, tooth-colored aesthetic versions.

Happy Smile clear aligners

One of the most discreet, virtually invisible orthodontic options. Because the trays are removable, eating and oral hygiene remain completely hassle-free. Aligners are custom-planned using 3D digital software; each tray is typically worn for about 2 weeks, 20–22 hours per day.

Healthy bite function and a harmonious dental arch

Orthodontics is about more than just straightening teeth; it establishes healthy biomechanics across the jaw joints, facial muscles, and bite. Crowded teeth create hard-to-reach areas where plaque and tartar build up quickly, increasing the risk of gum inflammation, while improper bite contacts place excessive stress on supporting bone.

At our clinic, planning covers every detail. Our specialists tailor the appliance to your facial features, bone structure, and individual expectations. Throughout treatment, ongoing clinical supervision guides tooth movement step-by-step, ensuring your results are not only aesthetic, but stable and functionally sound for decades to come.

You can achieve a confident smile and protect your dental health at any age. Our experienced orthodontists provide discreet, modern appliances to create optimal balance. Book a consultation today.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about orthodontic treatments and appliances.

Yes, there is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. As long as your gums and supporting bone are healthy, teeth respond biologically to orthodontic forces just as effectively in adulthood as they do in youth. Today, discreet clear aligners and aesthetic ceramic brackets are especially popular options for adult patients.

Treatment time depends on the complexity of the case and the type of appliance used. Mild aesthetic crowding can often be resolved with clear aligners within 6 to 12 months, whereas more complex bite corrections using fixed appliances generally take between 1.5 and 2 years.

Clear aligners use a series of custom-made, transparent medical plastic trays that can be removed for eating and brushing, making oral hygiene straightforward while keeping the treatment virtually invisible. Traditional fixed braces remain on the teeth throughout treatment and provide greater precision for complex tooth movements or significant skeletal discrepancies.

The placement process is entirely painless. Over the first 2 to 4 days after fitting, adjusting an appliance, or switching to a new aligner tray, you may feel mild tenderness or pressure when chewing as your teeth adapt to the gentle forces. This sensation resolves quickly.

The periodontal ligament and surrounding bone retain a biological memory and naturally tend to shift teeth back toward their original positions. The retention phase—using a bonded lingual wire or a removable night-time retainer—is essential to allow bone remodeling to stabilize and ensure your results last a lifetime.
