Cardiovascular diagnostics

Private cardiology clinic and advanced cardiac testing in Budapest

Cardiovascular diseases remain leading causes of mortality, yet most circulatory disorders and structural abnormalities can be effectively treated or prevented when diagnosed early. The role of specialized cardiology care is to accurately diagnose structural and functional disorders of the heart, cardiac arrhythmias and conduction abnormalities, and vascular diseases.

At our centers, we utilize state-of-the-art non-invasive imaging and monitoring technologies—including high-resolution echocardiography and up to 7-day Holter EKG monitors—to uncover the root cause of your symptoms.

Specialist preparation guidelines

The precision of your cardiology consultation and diagnostic testing is essential for a reliable assessment of your cardiovascular health. To ensure a smooth visit and accurate baseline physiological measurements, please keep the following guidelines in mind.

What to keep in mind before your visit

  • Caffeine and smoking: Avoid coffee, energy drinks, and smoking for 2 to 3 hours prior to your exam to ensure accurate heart rate and blood pressure measurements.
  • Blood pressure log and medications: If you monitor your blood pressure at home, bring your recorded readings along with an exact list of your regular medications and dosages.
  • Comfortable clothing: A resting EKG and echocardiogram require exposing the chest, so it is best to wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to remove.

When should you consult a cardiologist?

The following symptoms often indicate circulatory or heart rhythm disorders and require timely specialist evaluation:

  • Chest pain or tightness: Pressure or discomfort behind the breastbone that may worsen with physical exertion or radiate to the left arm or neck.
  • Shortness of breath and breathlessness: Unusual fatigue or breathlessness when climbing stairs or during minimal physical activity.
  • Irregular heartbeat and palpitations: Rapid pulse even at rest, fluttering, skipped beats, or a pounding sensation in the chest.
  • Fluctuating or persistently high blood pressure: Frequent headaches at the back of the head, ringing in the ears, or dizziness accompanied by blood pressure spikes.
  • Unexplained dizziness or fainting: Sudden episodes of lightheadedness, loss of balance, or loss of consciousness (syncope).

The cardiology clinic

Cardiology is the medical specialty dedicated to the cardiovascular system. At our outpatient cardiology clinics, board-certified cardiologists diagnose, manage, and prevent diseases and disorders affecting the heart and blood vessels.

Following an accurate diagnosis, our cardiologists recommend individualized therapies that may include medical therapy, cardiac catheterization, balloon angioplasty, stent placement, or surgical interventions. In addition, our physicians provide guidance on essential lifestyle modifications to prevent disease recurrence and long-term complications.

If you are experiencing cardiovascular symptoms, scheduling a consultation with our cardiology clinic can help identify the most effective diagnosis and treatment plan for your health.

We provide expert care for the following conditions and concerns:

Heart conditions

Frequently asked questions

Common questions regarding our cardiology clinic.

No, an echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) is completely painless, involves no ionizing radiation, and can be safely repeated as often as necessary. During the exam, you lie comfortably on your left side while the cardiologist places a transducer with water-soluble gel onto your chest. You may only feel mild pressure as the probe glides between the ribs.

A Holter EKG monitors and records the electrical activity and rhythm of your heart continuously (detecting arrhythmias, pauses, and ischemic changes), whereas ABPM (ambulatory blood pressure monitoring) measures blood pressure at regular intervals via a cuff placed on the upper arm. Both are compact, wearable devices typically attached to a belt, and they frequently complement one another during a cardiovascular workup.

Many cardiac arrhythmias—such as paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or occasional premature ventricular contractions—do not occur every day. During a 24-hour recording, your heart rhythm may happen to be completely normal. Extending the monitoring period to 48–72 hours or up to 7 days significantly increases the diagnostic yield for capturing infrequent arrhythmias and transient symptoms.

Fasting is not required for a standard cardiology consultation, resting EKG, or echocardiogram. However, before a stress EKG, avoid heavy meals for 2 hours prior to the test. If your cardiology visit includes comprehensive blood testing (such as cholesterol, blood glucose, or electrolyte panels), an 8- to 10-hour fast beforehand is recommended.

A resting EKG captures only a brief 10-to-15-second snapshot of your heart's activity. If your symptoms occur during physical exertion or in episodic spikes, a normal resting EKG does not rule out underlying cardiovascular disease. In such cases, an echocardiogram, stress test, or multi-day Holter EKG monitor is needed to establish an accurate diagnosis.
