Gynecology

Expert specialist evaluations for gynecological screenings, menstrual and pelvic disorders, infections, hormonal imbalances, and family planning concerns.

Gynecology consultation

Gynecological screening and specialized evaluations across every stage of life

Regular gynecological checkups are essential even in the absence of symptoms, and when concerns do arise, they ensure a targeted diagnostic evaluation of the underlying cause. Consulting a gynecologist is recommended for abnormal bleeding, lower abdominal pain, unusual vaginal discharge, signs of infection, menopausal transitions, or difficulties conceiving.

At Swiss Clinic's gynecology practice, specialist evaluations are seamlessly paired with cervical cancer screening (Pap test) and gynecological ultrasound. Depending on your symptoms and personal health goals, additional targeted investigations—such as infection panels, hormonal evaluations, or fertility workups—can be promptly arranged.

Important information before your visit

A gynecological visit typically requires no special preparation. However, for certain diagnostic tests, careful timing within your menstrual cycle and specific pre-sampling conditions can significantly affect test accuracy.

What to keep in mind before your visit

  • Timing your cervical screening: When possible, avoid scheduling a Pap smear during active menstrual bleeding. If you experience unexpected bleeding on the day of your appointment, contact our clinic in advance to confirm whether rescheduling is advisable.
  • Before Pap smears and vaginal swabs: Using vaginal suppositories, creams, douching, or having sexual intercourse in the 24 to 48 hours prior to testing can compromise sample quality. If these tests are anticipated, please follow the preparation instructions provided when booking.
  • Tracking menstrual symptoms: Please note the first day of your last menstrual period, your typical cycle length, and the details of any abnormal bleeding you have experienced. For irregular cycles, bringing a menstrual tracking log is exceptionally helpful.
  • Previous gynecological conditions: If you have a history of abnormal Pap smears, HPV infections, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, or other conditions requiring surveillance, please bring your prior medical records and ultrasound reports.

When should you consult a gynecologist?

Beyond routine preventive screenings, seeking a specialist consultation is recommended for any new, persistent, or recurring gynecological symptoms:

  • Menstrual and bleeding irregularities: Unusually heavy, prolonged, or irregular periods, intermenstrual spotting, postcoital bleeding, or any vaginal bleeding occurring after menopause.
  • Lower abdominal and pelvic pain: Recurrent or chronic lower abdominal pain, pelvic pressure, painful menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), or pain during intercourse (dyspareunia).
  • Vaginal discomfort and suspected infections: Changes in vaginal discharge, foul odor, itching, burning sensation, vaginal dryness, or potential exposure to sexually transmitted infections.
  • Contraceptive counseling and family planning: Selecting optimal contraceptive methods, preconception counseling, or diagnostic evaluations for difficulties conceiving.
  • Routine screening and preventive care: Periodic preventive checkups and age-appropriate cervical cancer screenings are essential even when you have no symptoms.

More than a routine gynecological exam

A gynecological visit serves a dual purpose: prevention and screening when you are healthy, and targeted diagnosis when symptoms arise. Your consultation begins with a detailed medical history, followed by a physical examination, cervical cytology sampling (Pap smear), and pelvic ultrasound as clinically indicated.

Ultrasound provides real-time visualization of the uterine and ovarian architecture, while cervical sampling is a primary component of cervical cancer screening. For vaginal discomfort or suspected infections, targeted microbiologic testing is performed, while menstrual or fertility concerns may call for specialized endocrine and laboratory panels.

Are you due for your annual gynecological checkup, or experiencing symptoms that require evaluation? Our expert gynecologists will determine the appropriate diagnostic tests and clinical care plan based on your symptoms, history, and individual health goals.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions regarding our gynecology clinic.

That depends on the primary reason for your visit. Heavy bleeding can compromise the diagnostic accuracy of a Pap smear, making it preferable to schedule routine cervical cancer screenings outside of your period. However, if you are experiencing acute pain, severe bleeding, or urgent symptoms, do not postpone care; contact our clinic in advance to confirm how best to proceed.

At Swiss Clinic, a comprehensive gynecological visit includes a specialist medical consultation, pelvic ultrasound examination, and cervical cytology (Pap smear). The exact diagnostic components performed during your appointment will be tailored to your symptoms, clinical history, and screening needs.

Prompt evaluation is recommended for newly developed or atypical bleeding, bleeding after intercourse, persistent lower abdominal or pelvic pain, unusual vaginal discharge, itching, burning, pain during sex, or any other new pelvic complaints. Any vaginal bleeding occurring after menopause requires comprehensive medical evaluation.

Yes. Pelvic ultrasound is a primary imaging modality for identifying structural changes in the uterus and ovaries, and it is widely used to evaluate suspected uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, and ovarian cysts. Ultrasound findings are always correlated with your symptoms and physical exam results.

Screening is advised when starting a relationship with a new partner, following barrier-free intercourse, when noticing symptoms suggestive of infection, or following known exposure. Because several sexually transmitted infections can remain asymptomatic while still causing complications, testing decisions should not rely solely on the presence of symptoms.
