Medically supervised weight loss

Safe, sustainable weight loss through comprehensive metabolic assessments, advanced medication options, and personalized medical supervision.

Medical weight loss program

A science-based approach to overcoming stubborn excess weight and metabolic disorders

Persistent excess weight is often not simply a matter of willpower. Underlying factors may include undiagnosed hormonal imbalances, insulin resistance, or a reduced basal metabolic rate. Extreme fad diets and overly restrictive weight loss programs can lead to rapid muscle loss, a slower metabolism, and repeated cycles of weight loss and regain (the yo-yo effect), potentially increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

At Swiss Clinic, we approach weight loss as a comprehensive medical process. Through detailed laboratory testing and specialist evaluations, we identify the biological factors contributing to weight gain. We then support you with advanced treatment options—including medically supervised weight loss medications and expert nutritional planning—to help you achieve and maintain a healthier, more stable body weight.

What to know before starting the program

A thorough health assessment is the foundation of safe and effective weight loss treatment. To help us make your initial consultation as focused and productive as possible, please keep the following recommendations in mind:

What should you know before your appointment?

  • Previous laboratory results and medical reports: Please bring your most recent blood test results, preferably from within the past 3–6 months, particularly those relating to blood glucose, insulin levels, lipid profiles, and thyroid function.
  • Medications and previous dieting experiences: Prepare a list of all medications and supplements you take regularly. It is also helpful to review the dietary approaches you have tried in the past and consider how effective they were.
  • Fasting before blood tests: If blood tests are scheduled during your appointment, please arrive after fasting for at least 8–10 hours. You may drink plenty of plain water during this period.

When is medically supervised weight loss recommended?

Medical support is particularly important when previous lifestyle changes have not produced lasting results or when excess weight is already affecting your health:

  • Unsuccessful diets and weight cycling: If you have repeatedly regained weight after restrictive diets or your weight loss has stalled for several weeks.
  • Suspected or diagnosed metabolic disorders: Excess weight associated with insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, or an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism).
  • Significant excess weight or obesity: A body mass index (BMI) above 27, particularly when accompanied by high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, or fatty liver disease.
  • Increased hunger and food cravings: Episodes of intense or difficult-to-control hunger, fatigue after meals, or persistent cravings for sweets.
  • Interest in modern weight loss medications: If you would like to explore prescription weight management treatments that are carefully selected and regularly monitored by a medical specialist.
  • Joint and musculoskeletal problems: When excess weight contributes to knee, hip, or lower back pain, making it difficult to increase physical activity.

Identifying the underlying causes

We investigate hormonal imbalances and metabolic disorders that may contribute to excess weight, helping address the underlying factors rather than just the symptoms.

Advanced medication options

We provide access to modern, clinically validated medications that help regulate appetite and may offer cardiovascular benefits when medically appropriate.

Sustainable nutrition without starvation

Our dietitians develop personalized, sustainable meal plans that fit naturally into your daily routine without extreme restrictions or unnecessary hunger.

Close medical monitoring

Regular medical evaluations and laboratory testing help ensure your weight loss journey remains safe, effective, and closely monitored.

Sustainable weight management and restoring metabolic health

Managing excess weight is not about drastic calorie restriction—it is about resetting your body's metabolic pathways. When insulin levels stay persistently elevated or satiety signals stop responding properly, the body locks into fat storage mode. Our medically supervised program is designed to overcome these biochemical barriers safely and effectively.

Every phase of care at our clinic is guided by medical specialists: from baseline blood work and modern pharmacotherapy to muscle-preserving dietary plans. Our physicians collaborate closely across diabetology, endocrinology, and clinical nutrition to ensure lost weight stays off while your long-term vitality and health remain protected.

Spare your body from exhausting crash diets and the yo-yo effect. Our experienced specialists and dietitians provide safe, clinically validated care to help you achieve lasting weight stability and optimal health.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about our medically supervised weight management program.

Rather than relying on one-size-fits-all diets, medical weight management investigates the underlying biological factors behind excess weight, such as insulin resistance, thyroid disorders, or other hormonal imbalances. When appropriate, modern medical therapies help curb persistent hunger pangs while specialist and dietitian oversight ensures safe fat loss while preserving lean muscle mass.

Clinically proven medical treatments are typically indicated for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 and above with at least one weight-related condition, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or joint issues. Treatment eligibility is always determined by a physician following a comprehensive evaluation.

Progress varies individually, but noticeable shifts—such as reduced appetite and feeling full sooner—usually appear within the first few weeks of medical and nutritional therapy. The recommended target for sustainable fat loss is 0.5 to 1 kg per week, which helps protect skin elasticity and prevents weight regain.

Yes. While modern therapies effectively help control appetite, lasting success relies on sustainable lifestyle adjustments. Our dietitian designs a protein-focused, nutrient-dense meal plan to safeguard muscle mass, supply vital micronutrients, and prevent rebound weight gain once treatment ends.

During initiation and dose titration, monthly checkups are generally advised. Once on a stable therapeutic maintenance plan, follow-ups take place every 2 to 3 months, combined with periodic blood tests to monitor liver, kidney, and metabolic markers.
