Diabetology

Personalized metabolic care, advanced blood glucose management, and comprehensive prevention of diabetes-related complications with our experienced diabetes specialists.

Diabetology services

Targeted metabolic diagnostics and long-term blood glucose control

Disorders of carbohydrate metabolism—including insulin resistance, gestational diabetes, and type 1 and type 2 diabetes—often develop without noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Our diabetology services focus on the early detection of these conditions, the prevention of complications, and personalized medical care designed to improve patients' quality of life.

Important information before your appointment

If you experience severe confusion, persistent vomiting, fruity or acetone-like breath, or loss of consciousness (possible signs of severe hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia), seek emergency medical attention immediately. For a scheduled diabetology consultation, the following preparations will help ensure a smooth and effective appointment:

What should you know before your appointment?

  • Blood glucose logs and monitoring data: If you use a home blood glucose meter or a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), please bring your glucose records or exported monitoring data from the past several weeks.
  • Previous medical reports and laboratory results: Gather your previous test results, particularly HbA1c measurements (reflecting average blood glucose levels over approximately three months), kidney function tests, urine test results, and hospital discharge summaries.
  • Medications you take regularly: Bring an accurate list of your current medications, including diabetes medications and insulin doses, to help your specialist review and coordinate your treatment.

When should you see a diabetes specialist?

Disorders of carbohydrate metabolism can develop gradually and without obvious symptoms. A specialist consultation is recommended if you experience any of the following symptoms or receive abnormal laboratory results:

  • Elevated fasting or post-glucose-challenge blood sugar: A fasting blood glucose level above 6.0 mmol/L detected during routine blood testing, or abnormal results from an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).
  • Symptoms suggesting a metabolic disorder: Increased thirst, frequent or excessive urination, persistent hunger, unexplained weight loss, or unusual fatigue.
  • Suspected insulin resistance: Abdominal weight gain, sudden fatigue after meals, intense cravings for sweets, or menstrual irregularities and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women.
  • Gestational diabetes: Prompt specialist evaluation and blood glucose management when elevated blood sugar levels are detected during routine pregnancy screening, typically performed between weeks 24 and 28.
  • Review of existing diabetes treatment: When your current treatment does not provide adequate blood glucose control, you experience frequent glucose fluctuations, or you have episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
  • Family history and additional risk factors: If diabetes runs in your family, or if you have other risk factors such as high blood pressure or elevated cholesterol levels.

Comprehensive screening and diagnostics

We use detailed laboratory tests and glucose tolerance testing (such as the OGTT) to identify disorders of carbohydrate metabolism.

Personalized lifestyle and treatment plans

Through nutritional counseling, personalized exercise programs, and medication or insulin therapy when needed, we help patients achieve and maintain healthy blood glucose levels.

Gestational diabetes care

We provide expectant mothers with attentive, specialized care to support the health and well-being of both mother and baby.

Patient education and ongoing support

We teach patients proper blood glucose self-monitoring techniques and insulin administration, while providing ongoing support for sustainable lifestyle changes.

Long-term metabolic control and vascular protection

The regulation of carbohydrate metabolism is one of the body's most complex physiological processes. When cells are unable to absorb glucose effectively, persistently elevated blood sugar levels can silently damage the walls of small and large blood vessels over many years. Untreated diabetes significantly increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, nerve damage, and vision impairment.

At our clinic, diabetes management goes far beyond simply monitoring blood glucose readings. Our goal is to achieve lasting, safe metabolic stability while preserving your quality of life. Through modern diagnostic methods, the latest cardioprotective medications, and personalized lifestyle support, we work to prevent the development of complications and help you maintain an active, healthy life.

Key areas of expertise and diagnostic services:

Diagnostics and metabolic health assessment

  • Analysis of fasting blood glucose levels and three-point oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTT with glucose and insulin measurements)
  • HbA1c testing (a marker of long-term blood glucose control) and monitoring of changes over time
  • Assessment of kidney and liver function and blood lipid levels (cholesterol and triglycerides)
  • Identification and classification of metabolic disorders (prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes)

Personalized treatment management

  • Use of modern oral diabetes medications and injectable therapies
  • Management of insulin resistance through lifestyle modifications and medication when appropriate
  • Specialist evaluation of blood glucose monitoring devices and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data
  • Patient education on preventing and managing hypoglycemic episodes

Coordinated prevention of diabetes-related complications

  • Regular screening for microalbuminuria and monitoring of kidney function
  • Coordination of ophthalmological care, including diabetic retinopathy screening
  • Early detection of peripheral neuropathy and circulatory disorders
  • Integration of dietary recommendations and physical activity guidelines into treatment plans

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about diabetes care and our consultations.

Not for a regular doctor consultation or to review your previous results. However, if you're having fasting blood sugar checked on-site or getting routine lab work done the same day, please avoid eating for 8 to 10 hours before your visit. Drinking plenty of plain, still water is completely fine and encouraged.

An A1C (or HbA1c) test measures the percentage of your red blood cells coated with sugar, giving a clear picture of your average blood sugar over the past 2 to 3 months. While a quick fingerstick reading only captures a single moment—which shifts easily based on stress or your last meal—your A1C shows how well your care plan is working over time.

When caught early, both conditions can often be put into remission. With the right lifestyle changes—like an individualized meal plan and regular physical activity—paired with modern medication when needed, blood sugar levels can return to normal and long-term complications can be avoided.

Gestational diabetes calls for close, supportive monitoring. Expectant mothers receive a personalized meal plan and track their blood sugar at home before and after meals. Our primary goal is keeping blood sugar steady and balanced to support a healthy pregnancy for both mother and baby.

If your numbers are stable and your treatment is on track, a checkup every 3 to 6 months with an A1C test is usually enough. If you've been recently diagnosed, are adjusting your medication, or are managing gestational diabetes, visits are typically scheduled more frequently—often every 2 to 4 weeks.
